Powder coating in Shepherdsville

Wheels, frames, railings and machine parts. Bring us the bare part or the whole assembly and we will tell you what it needs.

What goes through the shop

Powder coating is a dry finish. The part is cleaned, the powder is sprayed on with an electrostatic charge, then the part is baked until the powder flows out into one solid film.

It holds up to road salt, trailer duty and sunlight better than a rattle can ever will. Call and describe the part, the size and the colour you have in mind.

Wide view of a coating shop with freshly coated white vessels standing under an overhead conveyor line.
Big work moves down the overhead line, out of the booth and on to the oven.
Small coated steel parts strung on wire hooks and hanging in a row.
Small parts hang on wire so the gun can reach every face in one pass.
Coating booth with orange racks and an operator working at the far wall.
Work moves from the booth straight into the oven while the powder is still loose.
Worker in a helmet and orange vest working on heavy fabricated steel sections stacked in a shop bay.
Heavy sections are racked and checked over before they come into the booth.
Operator in a hood and protective suit blasting a part against a perforated wall.
Blasting takes the rust and the old paint back to bare metal.

Prep decides the finish

Powder will not hide pitting, flaking paint or oil. Parts are stripped, blasted and degreased before anything is sprayed.

If a part is cracked or badly scaled, we will say so before we start rather than coat over it.

Surface rust and mill scale, before blasting.
Hands working along the edge of a steel bracket at a bench.
Edges and weld seams get worked by hand.
Sparks flying from an angle grinder running along a steel beam.
Sharp weld spatter comes off first; powder will not bridge it.
Close view of a wheel coated in a deep yellow finish, lug holes in the foreground.
Colour on a wheel is the whole point. The yellow on this page is taken off this one.

Pick the colour first

Powder comes in gloss, satin, matt, metallic, candy and textured finishes. Colour changes the price and the lead time, so pick it before you drop the part off.

Bring a sample, a paint chip or a photo of something you like and we will match from the range we stock.

Rows of small bowls holding loose pigment powder in many colours.
Raw powder, before it is sprayed and baked.
Small coated steel hooks in red, green, blue and yellow laid on a white surface.
The same part in four colours. Gloss level changes the look as much as the hue.
A wall of alloy wheel faces in silver, black and gold against a dark background.
Silver, gunmetal and black still leave the shop most often.
Wheels and tyres stacked against a wall inside a workshop.
Wheels come in off the car; tyres have to be dismounted first.
Bare alloy rims stacked in rows on yellow steel shelving.
A set of four is coated together so the finish matches across the car.

Shop work, not a counter

This is a working coating shop. Parts are handled, racked and hung by people who will tell you straight if something is not worth doing.

Call before you load the trailer. A two minute conversation about size and finish saves a wasted trip.

Deep rack filled with ends of steel tube and bar stock in many sizes.
Hanging hooks and racking get built to fit the part.
Heavy forged steel machine component sitting under shop lighting.
Heavy sections take longer in the oven to come up to temperature.
Sparks thrown across a workbench while a part is cut back.
Fabrication and repair happen before the part ever reaches the booth.
Pedestal drill press standing in a workshop with tooling on the bench behind.
Holes get masked or re-tapped after coating so threads still fit.
Vernier caliper resting on the bed of a lathe among metal shavings.
Coating adds thickness. Mating faces are measured and masked.
Worn cutting and grinding discs stacked on a workshop bench.
Consumables from a normal week of prep work.

Talk to the shop

Call with the part, the size and the colour. That is usually enough to quote it.
